Tools your home should not be without

033

Hey friends…Here are the last five of 10 tools House Beautiful and Any Hue Home Décor and More, say every house should have. These include: 6.) a leveler; 7.)Swiss Army Knife, with all its gadgets inside; 8.) a bottle and manual can opener; 9.) a step ladder; and 10.) a tape measure.  I am adding two more things: 11.) along handled duster; and 12.) tape measure. Can you think of anything that you’d add to this list for every household?

A house that works with you!

005

According to House Beautiful and Any Hue Home Décor and More, five of the 10 must-have-in-the-house tools are: 1.) a flashlight; 2.) a broom and dustpan; 3.) a screwdriver (mine is battery operated) ; 4.) a garden trowel; and 5.) tape- masking, duct, roller and mailing. Now the house is working with you…or so I think. 🙂

Bowling Alley Hallway? Yuck….

Before my daughter found her current apartment, we had looked a two bedroom apartment much less than the one she settled on. We arrived at the location before the realty guy did…and talking to our selves, we liked the curb appeal of the building. When the guy arrived and we went inside, we entered from the room that would have been ,my daughter’s bedroom. Alright…Once exiting the bedroom, there was this long, narrow hallway with one light fixture in the ceiling halfway up, that directed you to the entire apartment, ending in the living room, where you turned right to enter. I had a few concerns…but as we walked from the back of the apartment, I wondered how she would add décor to this hallway. it. How would anyone brighten it up…add width, and yep…some life. Even though she did not take that apartment, I realize that many renters and homeowners may be dealing with this. So I have come up with some solutions. Most renters cannot change the color of paint on the walls. But something has to be done to replace the hallway ho-hum. Using my that apartment me and daughter looked at…I suggest starting with the bedroom door my daughter would have taken at the opposite end of the hallway. Adding a mirror to that door, both serves as a last-minute check before walking out the door; and a reflection as company walks down the hallway to get to the bathroom and the kitchen, of the décor added to the walls. On the other end, by the wall that directs you to the living room and front door, I suggest placing a hallway table there with a lamp on it. The lamp adds additional light; and the table adds a place for keys, gloves, change and anything small that can fit in the drawer. Bright colored art, framed in dark colored frames will add a spark to the drab space. Adding signs that say kitchen, and bathroom, will keep the host from having to ask guest to count the doorways. Also wall decals that can add décor, connecting the dots and can be taken off the wall easily…without mess.  If you live in a home and are able to pain, I suggest painting the walls and ceilings the same color, a method that will lower the ceiling and visually make it a part of the room. Fun stuff would be painting the doors of the rooms that open to the hallway a different color….making them pop. The table is also a good idea…adding track lighting to the ceiling. Your hallway does not have to look like the path to nowhere….It can be a viable part of the space. Visit Better Homes and Gardens, HGTV Magazine, Martha Stewart Living or any of the paint companies websites for more ideas. Hallway tables are available at Target…Sears and Kmart. DIY floor Plan sale

041

In a designers world, every redesign project begins with pencil and paper…an idea, and a eraser because plans can change in midstream. Sometimes clients want the plan…the idea…the project, and have a visual idea of what the room will look like,  but need to delay implementation. That is where the DIY Redesign plan comes into play here at A Hue or Two Interior Redesign. How does it work? Glad you asked! You and I work together to develop a redesign plan for a room or space in your home. We work on color palettes, furnishings, accessories, lamps, rugs, textures and fabrics, window treatments and more. I take all that we have talked about, put our plan on paper, along with a list of merchants to make your design purchases and present it to you. You then, using our plan,  put it all together…in your own timeframe. That’s right…in your own time frame, when you’re ready. It can take two weeks…it can take 2 months, but its your plan to implement at your leisure. Regular price for DIY floor plans is $125. But on Monday, January 27th through Thursday,  January 30th, you can get your DIY floor plan from A Hue or Two Interior Redesign, my redesign company, for $94.99. Same complete plan…but on sale. Posted where you can see it everyday,  the plan will be a daily reminder of how a redesign can change the direction and feel of a room that has lost its way.  Interested? Lets talk!
